World Tuberculosis Day: Promoting Lung Health Across Latvia

27.03 2026 Health promotion

March 24 marks World Tuberculosis Day. To highlight this, the Latvian Red Cross, together with its cooperation partners across Latvia, is implementing health promotion activities, encouraging people to take responsibility for their lung health – to get tested, receive specialist consultations, and learn more about tuberculosis.

Thank you to everyone who has already taken this opportunity to check their lung health. Taking care of yourself is the first step towards a healthier society.

Today, residents of Riga and visitors to the city had the opportunity to undergo lung screenings using the “Veselības centrs 4” mobile X-ray unit, which welcomed visitors at 1B Šarlotes Street, next to the Latvian Red Cross Health Room.

Did you know that the Latvian Red Cross has been part of the international Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement network – ERNA (European Red Cross and Red Crescent Network on HIV, Hepatitis and Tuberculosis) – for more than 24 years?

Since 1987, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has been actively involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS. In 2002, National Societies of the Movement established the ERNA network to strengthen joint efforts in reducing the spread of HIV, hepatitis, and tuberculosis.

The Latvian Red Cross is a full member of this network and actively implements public health promotion activities in Latvia.

Taking care of yourself is the first step towards a healthier society.
