On February 25–26, 2026, a two-day workshop was held in Šiauliai (Lithuania) as part of the Positive Aging Hub 55+ project. The event brought together project partners and developers from the Latvian Red Cross Society and the Northern College of Lithuania. The main goal of the workshop was to deepen the understanding of the positive aging approach and to develop practical solutions for its implementation in both countries.
During the workshop, the HDLB (Having–Doing–Loving–Being) model was developed and adapted to serve as a holistic framework for strengthening human well-being during the aging process. Participants analyzed how this model could be integrated into social services in both Latvia and Lithuania, considering the cultural and societal characteristics of each country. Particular attention was paid to the practical application of the model in working with seniors and in community development.
The seminar facilitated the exchange of experiences among partners, strengthened cooperation, and identified concrete next steps for the project’s development. As a result, new approaches were defined for engaging the 55+ age group in public life and promoting their self-worth.
Social Innovation in Ludza: Establishing the First “Positive Aging Hub”
A significant part of the project is a social innovation currently being implemented in Ludza—the Positive Aging Hub is being established. It will be the first center of its kind in Latvia, offering an integrated approach to active and meaningful aging. This center will serve as a platform for education, social engagement, and personal development for seniors.
This initiative is expected to have a significant positive impact on Latvian society as a whole, particularly by strengthening the Latgale region. It will promote social inclusion, reduce loneliness, and create new opportunities for people aged 55 and older. The Positive Aging Hub project is a significant step toward a sustainable, inclusive, and people-centered society.
