Five tonnes of animal food donated to families and people of low-income

The association “Latvian Red Cross” received more than five tonnes, or 12 000 dog and cat meals, for pets of the low-income people within the framework of the “Pet Days” campaign. This was achieved with the support of “Maxima” customers and SIA ”Mars Latvia”.

Viktors Jaksons, President of the “Latvian Red Cross” says: “During this dark autumn time, both people and their pets feel the need for love, care and support. Thank you to “Maxima Latvija” and SIA “Mars Latvia”, who have found an opportunity to share with others by organising such campaigns, donating both funds and time, taking care of vulnerable groups of population. Based on the amount of the donated meals, we will be able to help a lot of people and their pets.”

 

“While adapting to the new conditions, “Maxima Latvija” focuses on reducing prices of daily necessities, including animal food. The “Pet Day” campaign is another support mechanism to help the people affected by the crisis and also to ease the day-to-day spending on animal food. Pets are our best friends and family members who bring joy and love to everyone’s life during these difficult times, so they deserve our care and support as well. We would like to thank all the “Maxima” customers as well as “Mars Latvia” for invaluable assistance in making the daily life of many Latvian families and their pets more pleasant,” says Viktors Troicins, Head of “Maxima Latvija”.

By inviting buyers to donate dog and cat food, the “Latvian Red Cross”, in cooperation with “Maxima Latvija” and animal food wholesaler “Mars Latvia”, is organising the campaign “Pet Days” for the second time this year. From 24 September to 7 October, for each kilogram of “Whiskas”, “Sheba”, “Perfect Fit”, “Pedigree” or “Cesar” food purchased, 100 grams were donated to support pets of the low-income people. The greatest response from customers was observed in “Maxima” stores in Riga, while at the end of the campaign more than 5 tonnes, or 12,000 meals for pets, were donated.

The first phase 1 of the campaign took place this year in the spring, 24.03. – 08.04.2020, as a result of which low-income families of Latgale region and Jelgava received dog and cat food. Families from Kurzeme, Zemgale, Vidzeme regions and Riga who applied for this type of support at the beginning of the year receive support for the phase 2 within this Autumn.
