Coordinator of Family Assistant Service

The family assistant service is a rehabilitation service at the location of a person and it provides the needed care and training for obtaining social skills – childcare and parenting, starting an independent life, household management, dealing with employment issues. This service is assigned by the Welfare Department of Riga after individual need assessment.

People with rights to receive the family assistant service:

• young people outside family care, who don’t have the needed abilities and skills to start an independent life;

• families with children, who don’t have the needed abilities and skills in child caring and parenting;
• adults with mental disabilities and adults with signs of mental disorders, who need support and training in obtaining social skills including employment issues and managing a household.

This service is free of charge but the participants must cooperate with the Welfare Department of Riga and actively participate in solving their problems, give accurate information about their social situation, comply with the procedures set out by the service provider (including collaboration with a family assistant).

People who have the rights to provide family assistant service have received higher education in the following fields – social work, social care or social rehabilitation; pedagogy or psychology, or professional secondary education in social or health care.
