Ms Gundega Dambe
Head of HR development and Health Promotion Program

The goal of LSK is to promote the blood donation movement in Latvia, as well as to attract donors to provide blood to people in need.

Share your life!

The unpaid blood donor movement means direct public participation in health care. Throughout the world, it is provided by blood services in partnership with the Red Cross National Societies and with material support from the state. Each country supplies its population with blood and blood components. Therefore, the unpaid blood donor should be respected as important part of national wealth and societies health.

The blood donor movement is the highest expression of human solidarity and humanity, it also serves to raise a healthy nation (donor – a healthy person) and to cultivate high moral principles. The quality of blood donors, on the other hand, is a general indicator of public health. In Latvia, about 7% of those interested in medical indications receive refusals to become donors.

The focus of all activities at the Red Cross and Blood Donor Centers is the donor and his or her needs: out-of-office visits, blood donations are also organized after the work day and on weekends. A great deal of attention is paid to raising public awareness and stimulating donors’ material and morals.

Throughout the world, Red Cross donor activities receive governmental support, enabling the organization to successfully engage new unpaid blood donors, promote the movement, and organize gratitude events. Benefits for blood donors to promote blood donor movement in Latvia include: life insurance policy, discounts on medical services and medicines, discounts on public transportation, discounts on utility services, increased scholarships for student donors, a special state award for multiple and outstanding donors, and special thanks to the organizers expressions and other activities.

Your blood can save someone’s life!
