On 13 September, the Latvian Red Cross (LatRC) organised the National First Aid Competition for school students, which took place in Tērvete Nature Park. The best youth teams from across Latvia came together to compete.
This was the grand final of the 2025 competition series – during the previous school year, students had trained diligently and won regional competitions in May.
A total of 10 teams (each consisting of six participants) represented different regions of Latvia. The young participants demonstrated their knowledge and practical skills by providing first aid in simulated emergency situations – road traffic accidents, a wedding fire, domestic incidents, sudden health problems, and other crises. With the help of realistic make-up, actors played the roles of injured people, creating an intense and emotionally powerful atmosphere. This year’s competition was especially dynamic and lifelike – scenarios included pain cries and strong acting performances, with the support of Jelgava Youth Theatre actors.
Results:
1st place – Riga Secondary School No. 34 (upper secondary team)
2nd place – Riga Secondary School No. 34 (lower secondary team)
3rd place – Jelgava Spīdola State Gymnasium
In total, 60 young people took part in the competition.
The Latvian Red Cross would like to thank all staff members and volunteers for their contribution to the event!
Special thanks to the supporters: Latvia’s State Forests – Tērvete Nature Park, Emergency Medical Service, Jelgava Youth Theatre, Nestlé Baltics, SIA “Dimdiņi”, SIA “Orkla Latvija”, AirBaltic Training SIA, Civil Protection and Operational Information Department, the Youth Guard Centre, and Riga Art and Media Technical School.
Lauris Mainieks, Head of the LSK First Aid and Emergency Situations Programme:
“We are proud to see young people who are not afraid, who know how to react in crisis situations – and who actually do it. These are skills that can save lives, because emergencies can happen to anyone at any time. That is why being prepared is so important. Educating young people in first aid has always been, is, and will remain one of LSK’s priorities.”
The Latvian Red Cross works daily to provide first aid training for the population and medical support at public events. One of its main priorities is involving young people so that these skills can be passed on to their peers.
Together we can help!
