The aim of the LatRC is to participate in educating society on how to act in an emergency situation, to provide support to responsible state institutions in the prevention of emergency situations, and to render assistance to victims by involving local resources and organising international assistance.
In collaboration with the Red Cross of Austria, Norway, and Sweden, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the LatRC is advancing the programme for disaster and emergency situations. Within the framework of this programme, LatRC is forming task forces. The participants of these task forces are volunteer members of the LatRC who are trained to provide first aid and psychological support. They can also provide rescue and search services. Participants of the task forces can function as assistants for the State Fire and Rescue Service of Latvia, the Home Guard, the Police, etc. As part of the programme, in case of a necessity, material assistance (clothing, blankets, etc.) is organised for victims or casualties. The LatRC has 8 task forces from Jumprava (Ogre Region), Vaive (Cesu Region), the Cesis educational establishment for the juvenile, Vilkene (Limbazu Region), Saldus, the Red Cross Medical College, Jekabpils and Livani. Participants of the LatRC task forces take part in various types of activities.
