In accordance with the NGOs activities support programme the financial instrument of the European Economic Area and the financial instrument of Norway in the years 2009-2014, the Society Integration Foundation had approved the project No. 2012.EEZ/DAP/MAC/086“Regular Activities of the LRC in Area of Human Rights and Anti-discrimination” realized by the Latvian Red Cross (hereinafter – the LatRC).

The implementation period of the project: 01.07.2013.- 31.12.2015.

The objective of the programme: to ensure regular activities of the LRC in the area of human rights and the reduction of discrimination by observing the basic principles of the LRC.

The place of implementation of the programme: the whole territory of Latvia as 28 LatRC branches, 19 LatRC youth divisions and the Secretariat in Riga are actively enrolled in the implementation of the programme in all regions of Latvia.

The main activities of the programme:

1) regular LatRC activities by providing support to inhabitants of Latvia on the issues of human rights, including the implementation of social and health promotion measures and the reduction of discrimination;

2) improvement of external communication of the LatRC for the attraction of new members and volunteers;

3) capacity building of the LatRC in areas of human rights, interest protection and the reduction of discrimination;

4) development of activities of the youth departments of the LatRC on the issues of human rights, including the implementation of social and health promotion measures and the reduction of discrimination;

5) involvement in consultations and cooperation with the state authorities and municipal institutions in order to implement interest protection and compliance with human rights, as well as the reduction and restriction of discrimination.

The results of the programme:

1) activities of 26 LatRC branches and 19 LatRC youth divisions by providing support to inhabitants of Latvia on the issues of human rights, including the areas of social and health promotion measures and the reduction of discrimination;

2) the communications strategy of the LRC has been implemented and the number of members and volunteers has increased by 3-5%;

3) 70 employees of the LatRC branches have been trained in the areas of human rights, interest protection and the reduction of discrimination;

4) the strategy of the LatRC has been elaborated in the areas of human rights, interest protection and the reduction of discrimination;

5) at least 3-5 campaigns at the national and regional levels have been implemented in the areas of human rights, interest protection and the reduction of discrimination by involving local inhabitants, business people and other supporters;

6) 75 representatives of the LatRC youth divisions have been trained in the areas of human rights, interest protection and the reduction of discrimination;

7) at least 30 consultations were provided (including participation in task forces, cooperation in the implementation of various events, etc.) with state authority and municipal institutions;

8) the homepage www.redcross.lv has been improved within the framework of the project No.2012.EEZ/DAP/MAC/086/2/NAC/060/2014 “Regular Activities of the Latvian Red Cross in the Area of Human Rights and Anti-discrimination” that is financially supported by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.

The objective of the project has been accomplished – it has ensured regular activities of the Latvian Red Cross (LatRC) in the area of human rights and the reduction of discrimination by fulfilling the basic principles of the LatRC, specifically: „Impartiality. Red Cross movement makes no discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions. It endeavours to relieve the suffering of individuals, being guided solely by their needs, and to give priority to the most urgent cases of distress.”

Within the project, LatRC has accumulated significant experience in organizing events – discussions, workshops, social campaigns etc. which aims to promote public awareness of discrimination and violence issues. Regular LatRC activities have been ensured to provide support to inhabitants of Latvia on the issues of human rights, including the implementation of social and health promotion measures and the reduction of discrimination. It has strengthened the Latvian civil society by engaging new LatRC members and volunteers, which gives the continuity of LatRC activities in the future. The project has helped the capacity building process of the LatRC and has developed more activities of LatRC youth on the issues of human rights, including the implementation of social and health promotion measures and the reduction of discrimination. LatRC has been actively involved in consultations, working groups and cooperation with the state authorities, municipal institutions and other NGO`s in order to implement interest protection and compliance with human rights, as well as the reduction and restriction of discrimination. It has promoted awareness and strengthened the LatRC role as a Partner of state and municipal authorities.

LatRC will continue the activities that have been started within the project, by attracting additional funding from various grant programs, state and municipal authorities, which ensures the sustainability of the activities on such important topics as Human Rights and Anti-discrimination.

Financing of the programme: the total costs of the project amount to LVL 42’150.00, of which 90% (LVL 37’935.00) is co-financing for the programme, but 10% (LVL 4’215.00) is financed by the project applicant.
